Pediatric Sedation Dentistry

At Chestermere Station Pediatric Dentistry, we understand that not all children experience things the same way. Thus, we offer options for you to consider for Pediatric Sedation Dentistry so your child can get the dental care they need while ensuring the least amount of anxiety or fear. It is our goal for your child to have a positive experience every time they visit the dentist so that they can be encouraged towards a lifetime of oral health and wellness!

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide is a safe and effective way of providing your child with the dental treatment they need. At Chestermere Station Pediatric Dentistry, we use nitrous oxide sedation to reduce the fear and anxiety your child may be having about their dental appointment. Nitrous oxide is often referred to as laughing gas and can be beneficial in pain management. It also works well for children who experience a gag reflex when having dental treatment.

Oral Sedation

Medications can be utilized in conjunction with Nitrous Oxide to alleviate your child’s anxiety or distress when having a dental treatment performed. It is important to realize that medication along with Nitrous Oxide allows your child to become less anxious and/or drowsy. However, it does not render them unconscious. This form of sedation is often ideal when the child required extensive dental treatment. Combining medication with Nitrous Oxide may help promote the child’s acceptance of the dental procedure.

General Anesthesia

We use general anesthesia to help the child sleep soundly during their dental treatment. It allows your child to get the dental treatment they need without experiencing any awareness of pain, sensation, noise or movement during the dental procedure. General Anesthesia may be required for children with extensive dental needs, or uncooperative patients or for those who are extremely fearful or anxious. General Anesthesia may also be suitable for those children with special needs.

If you feel your child suffers anxiety or fear about visiting the dentist, we encourage you to contact us to discuss their needs.
